Katie’s role in the big screen adaptation of 1993 children’s novel by American author, Lois Lowry, sees her playing the part of the mother of a young boy living in a strict, suffocating society where a chosen few get to learn about the true pain and pleasure of the real world.
Many have commented that Katie may have chosen the be part of the project as a way to speak about her time in Scientology due to her relationship with Cruise.

She admitted: ‘I was not familiar with the book so I read it along with the script and I thought it was a really powerful story.
‘I read for it and it was a really challenging role to play because it’s this utopian society, an alternative reality – there’s no emotion and no pain.
She added: ‘There’s a great deal of security and safety but to play that as an actor is interesting because we like to emote, so that was its own challenge.’
The mother-f-one also claimed that she wouldn’t trade her own memory to feel less pain like the characters do in the film.
She mused:‘Our memories inform who we are and inform the lineage that we’re creating.’
Katie will next be seen in 2015's The Woman in Gold, alongside Helen Mirren, Ryan Reynolds, Tatiana Maslany, and Max Irons and she admitted the role appealed to her adventurous side.
'I think as an artist, I am, absolutely.
'We are risk-takers and curious people and always interested in something we don’t know about’.
