He’s tested his teammates' patience with his cocky attitude numerous times over the last few weeks.
But
James Hill finally came a cropper on Wednesday night’s episode of The
Apprentice when his big mouth landed him in hot water, with a country
fair task turning to mud slinging in the boardroom.
The
candidate from Chesterfield put himself in charge of his team, Summit,
in a challenge to choose the best products to sell at a rural event, but
took only £4,757 compared to rivals Tenacity who managed £30,615.

Another one bites the dust: James Hill
ran out of chances to impress Lord Alan Sugar and was sent packing
after a country fair selling task on Wednesday night's episode of The
Apprentice
Project
manager Hill blew their chances by missing out on an opportunity to win
the right to sell hot tubs - the most lucrative product - after he
called the salesman the wrong name, leading him to choose Tenacity.
James was initially backed by his whole team as project manager, but it didn’t take long for things to spiral out of control.
Famous
last words sprang to mind when he confidently declared: ‘I fancy this.
I’ve grown up selling, it’s what I’ve done all my life. I’ve got a good
feeling inside that this is going to be a good task for me.’
The
Essex lad adopted a totalitarian style when it came to choosing which
products to sell, ignoring his sub team formed of Solomon, Bianca and
Sanjay’s advice about opting for family-friendly items.
Confrontation: Roisin Hogan finally spoke up and let rip about James' bad attitude in the boardroom
Awkward: James lost the pitch for the most lucrative product when he called the vendor by the wrong name
Sanjay ranted: ‘James is an idiot, he’s just mucked it up for us’.
After
losing the pitch for the big-ticket hot tubs when he repeatedly called
the vendor ‘Derek’, the project manger’s attitude went from bad to
worse.
Upon informing Roisin Hogan of his plan to hide the truth from the rest of their team, she immediately warned him against it.
‘I
want to keep my team in good spirits. Do they really need to know what
happened? I want them to back me as a leader’, he declared, offering no
explanation to his disgruntled teammates about why he had secured the
lawnmowers at the last minute.
Team Summit: James ran a dictatorship and wouldn't let his team mates make decisions
James’
other choices of flimsy foldable wellies and designer chairs also
proved unpopular with the country folk at the fair, but he wouldn’t
listen to a word of advice.
‘All
this negativity is not going to help us. Stop trying to undermine me,
patronise me’, he shouted at his long-suffering task partner Roisin.
Meanwhile,
the other team were only saved from the boardroom thanks to Mark’s
impressive salesman skills, shifting seven hot tubs in one swift deal.
Their
team nearly fell apart as hot-headed Daniel caused drama yet again,
attacking project manager Felipe for not putting him in charge of the
lucrative jacuzzi sales and making customers flee their stand due to his
X-rated tirade of abuse.
Handbags at dawn: On team Tenacity, Daniel was furious when Felipe made him sell bags instead of hot tubs
After
meeting with Lord Sugar and learning of team Summit’s catastrophic
loss, James decided to bring back his arch-nemesis Roisin to the
boardroom as well as placid banker Sanjay, who was slammed by Nick Hewer
for his lack of sales.
Lord
Sugar's adviser cuttingly told Sanjay: ‘In all of my notes over the
last few days, your name doesn’t eature anywhere because you don’t stand
out. Nameless.’
But
it was Irish accountant Roisin who really came into her own, tearing
James to shreds when he tried to bring her down and discredit her
business acumen.
‘James
is on a complete ego trip throughout this whole process’, she raged.
‘He comes across as this Del Boy figure. In reality he’s very
patronising, demeaning and difficult to work with. Also you don’t
listen. When things don’t go your way you have a tantrum.’
Clear winners: Tenacity pulled in a whopping £30,615 thanks to Mark's selling skills
In
spite of his passionate speech asking Lord Sugar to take a punt on him,
during which he looked like he might even shed a tear, James’
‘immature’ behaviour and lack of polish ultimately cost him his spot in
the competition.
‘I
find it very hard to demoralise someone with such fighting spirit.
Culture that good stuff about you and you will go somewhere. It is with
regret James, that I have to say… You’re fired’, The Apprentice boss
said.
In
the wake of his time on the show, Hill admitted: ‘It was my fault that
we lost that task. I called the guy Derek when his name was Anthony, so I
was the reason why we failed that task. We can't get it right all the
time, everyone gets someone's name wrong, it happens, doesn't it?’
James
caused further controversy by choosing not to tell the rest of the team
about his wrong move, which was only uncovered in the boardroom, but he
stands by his decision.
Holding her own: Roisin impressed Lord Sugar by speaking up in the boardroom and showing her worth
He
explained: ‘I wanted my team to still believe in me and believe I'd
made the decision for the right reason. If I had called him the right
name, we might have won.’
He
continued: ‘I am who I am and we can't get it right all the time, so
I'm sure I'll call people the wrong name again. It would be nice if he'd
just pulled me up on it instead when it happened, but it is what it is
and it was my time to go.’
During
his time on the BBC One show, the cheeky chappie came under fire for
his constant chatter and joking, but said: ‘I think people sometimes
don't take me seriously because I like a joke and a laugh, but I'm only
human.
‘I
love people, I love to chat, and I think that's a quality. I'm a nice
person, I love to talk and people don't talk enough now, with emails and
things. This country was built on relationships and communication.’
However,
he added that he was surprised to see how aggressive he had seemed
towards some of the other contestants and said: ‘I think I've got a lot
of good stuff in me and if I can channel that good stuff and I can start
to listen more, I think I'll do well.’
The Apprentice continues on BBC1 on Wednesdays at 9pm.
