Actress
Uma Thurman has hit back at claims that she has undergone plastic
surgery, blaming her altered appearance during a recent red carpet event
on an experimental make-up look.
During an interview with the Today
show's Savannah Guthrie this morning, in which she was discussing her
new NBC miniseries The Slap, the 44-year-old actress addressed recent
speculation that she has had a cosmetic procedure done, labeling the
rumors as 'nasty'.
'I
guess nobody liked my make-up,' the Kill Bill star said when Savannah
questioned her about the recent reports on her new look.
Uma, is that you? The 44-year-old
actress sparked speculation that she has undergone cosmetic surgery,
after she stepped out on the red carpet with a suspiciously smooth
forehead
Back to normal: The actress looked much more like her usual self during her appearance on the Today show
The
mother-of-three went on to say that, while she didn't understand where
the claims had come from, she refused to let them have an impact on
her.
'I've
been doing this for years and years and years and people say things
[that are] nice and they say things [that are] mean and it's like
whatever!'
Uma
first sparked worldwide speculation about her appearance after she
stepped out at a premiere for The Slap with what critics described as a
'suspiciously smooth forehead' and an extremely tight smile.
Her
comments about the reports on this morning's Today show follow a
similar statement made by her make-up artist, Troy Surratt, yesterday,
in which he also denied any claims that the actress has undergone
cosmetic surgery, blaming her seemingly altered appearance at a recent
red carpet event on an experimental make-up look.
Speaking to People.com,
the cosmetics expert insisted that Uma was merely 'experimenting' with
her beauty look, adding that he was 'surprised' by the scandalized
reaction to it.
Whatever! Uma told the Today show's Savannah Guthrie that she will not let the 'nasty' claims have an impact on her

Fresh-faced:
Uma's make-up artist, Troy Surratt, hit back at the claims, saying that
the actress' glowing complexion was a result of his beauty techniques
All about the lip: Troy added that he
and Uma chose to forgo eyeliner and mascara for the look, which may have
contributed to her altered appearance
'By
now I would have thought that we were all open to and knowledgeable of
the role that makeup plays in the world of fashion and particularly
celebrity, as a medium for creative self expression,' he said.
'I
think that women should feel open and free to experiment with different
beauty looks — it's only makeup, at the end of the day it all washes
off.'
When
Uma debuted her new beauty look earlier this week, many critics were
quick to compare her facial transformation to that of fellow Hollywood
star Renee Zellweger, who caused quite the stir last year when she
revealed her own drastically different look.
But
Troy, who has also worked with the likes of Adriana Lima, Kristin Davis
and Charlize Theron, insists that he and Uma had lengthy conversations
about her altered make-up look prior to her red carpet appearance, with
both deciding that it would be fun to do something unconventional with
her cosmetics.
Explaining
that he has grown tired 'of all the lash-y looks' that are so
frequently worn by stars on the red carpet, Troy explained that he opted
to focus Uma's look around a bold red lip.
