'I don't want to diet!' Plus-size supermodel Robyn Lawley shows off her famous curves in new Rankin shoot
While many girls fret about being
skinny in order to make it as a model, the career of Australian Robyn
Lawley reached new heights after she embraced her curves.
The 24-year-old has appeared on the cover of Vogue, in campaigns for Ralph Lauren and on the catwalk at Milan Fashion Week as a plus-size model. Today she is signed to talent agency MiLK Model Management and has been chosen as one of the stars of a new Rankin campaign to promote the agency's varied roster.
Speaking at the shoot, the size 16 star told MailOnline she had tried to be a 'regular' model but her natural body shape didn't fit the mould. She wasn't prepared to
starve herself to continue a career in modelling -
and luckily she didn't have to after plus-size jobs became available.
She revealed: 'I started out doing
regular modelling as a teenager but I couldn't maintain a size 6 to 8
figure and that's what size all the samples are.
'I'm tall and I have big hips and shoulders. Even if I diet I can't shrink my bones. I had tried to be that skinny I would have ended up in hospital.'
Instead, a friend recommended Robyn tried plus-size modelling and she hasn't looked back.
Now she's in demand for editorial and commercial work and has launched her own swimwear range. She said that she doesn't feel under pressure to diet to be part of the fashion industry so has no plans to lose her curves, like other plus-size models before her such as Crystal Renn.
Robyn explained: 'I am the perfect shape for plus-size modelling. I don't feel any pressure to lose weight as I've been this size for years now and I don't want to change or diet. I enjoy exercising and being able to eat foods I like.'
She added: 'It must annoy some of the other models when they see the plus-size models eating after they have starved themselves all night.'
But she admitted being plus-size can be both a gift and a curse in the fashion world and a lot still needs to be done to make curvaceous girls more accepted and catered for.
'Being a plus-size model in an industry where there aren't many means there are some opportunities I wouldn't have had otherwise,' she said. 'But there are also less jobs available, particularly in mainstream and high-end fashion.
'I know a lot of stunning girls who are not working because being a size 8 to 14 you are in no man's land even though you have a normal, healthy body.'
She added that she has had to work hard to prove herself as a model because of her size.
'People are surprised when I turn up on a shoot and I can model. But why shouldn't I be able to do it just because I'm a size 16?' she said.
While Robyn has had worldwide success in magazines and campaigns, she has had little work on the catwalk and she blames this on designers' reluctance to use models who are bigger than a size 8.
She said: 'It's disappointing as I love catwalk modelling, it's more
exciting than being on a shoot so it sucks not to be included.
'Plus-size models are being used more in magazines and in the media but not on the runway and not by high-end designers like Prada. I'd love them to use more curvy girls but it's like a taboo and I don't know why. It screams lack of diversity.'
Her own career ambitions aside, the model claims that the lack of larger catwalk models is also damaging for young girls.
She said: 'It doesn't send out a good message to teenager girls who are impressionable. They're not coat hangers, they're girls and it's bad for them to only see skinny frames on the catwalk. I hope I can be a strong role model for them but there's not enough of us plus-size models.'
Robyn's values sit well with MiLK Management who also aim to celebrate diversity, which is reflected in their latest campaign showcasing their clients who include Ill Manors actor Sean Sagar, former X Factor contestants Union J and and another plus size model, Felicity Hayward.
Founder, Anna Shillinglaw, a former model, describes MiLK as a boutique agency that understands no two models are alike.
She said: 'MiLK has been instrumental in pushing the boundaries in terms of diversity, we believe that there is no longer a standard size for modelling and we look at everyone's potential individually. It's about offering something unique and special to clients.'
MiLK's roster has already seen their models like Robyn grace covers from Italian Vogue to i-D, star in campaigns from Chanel to Victoria Secrets and runway shows from Calvin Klein to PPQ.
In 2013 they launched MiLK Special Bookings headed up by Calvin Morris, who prior to joining the agency, helped guide the career of Kate Moss for more than nine years.

Lobatan! Kenyan Man Who Had Sex With Goat Sentenced To 10 Years Imprisonment
A man has been jailed for 10 years for having sex with a
female goat. He came face-to-face with his victim in a Kenyan court. The goat
watched quietly from the corner of the court room in Malindi while Katana
Kitsao Gona, 28, was jailed for bestiality.
According to Jimmy Kimaru, chief prosecutor, Gona was caught
sexually assaulting the goat in a bush in Dabaso, Kilifi county, on November
25. The goat had been tied to graze by its owner, Sarah Kadenge, for the
afternoon.
But when a passer-by went to relieve himself in the bush he
was shocked to discover Gona having sex with the animal. The man reported what
he had seen to the goat's owner who cornered Gona and took him to Watamu Police
Station.
Following a medical examination carried out by Munga Gambo,
a veterinary officer from Malindi, it was confirmed that the goat had been
sexually abused. Gona, who pleaded guilty, told the court his wife is disabled
and depends on him daily. Despite this, the judge jailed him for a record 10
years for 'defiling' the animal.

reach paradise', said Max Cady, and it seems Harry Styles goes through
that when he hits the gym.
And thanks to his illustrated torso and arms, the One Direction star shares more than a passing resemblance to the psychotic serial rapist played by Robert De Niro in the Martin Scorsese remake of Cape Fear.
Grunting, sweating and covered in random tattoos, Harry opened up about his fitness habits during One Direction's seven-hour streaming event, 1D Day.
Just like Cady, Styles showed off his array of tattoos from swallows, to butterflies to nails and phrases all over his alabaster skin, but his reasoning for getting them will be a far cry from that of the murderous character.
'I understand, I'm not your type, too many tattoos,' Cady says in the film. 'Thing is, there isn't much to do in prison except desecrate your flesh.'
Luckily, the popstar won't be hanging onto the underside of a car anytime soon, what with his millionaire status, mentally stable personality, and penchant for the romantic comedy genre, which means he may not have seen the 1991 horror movie to get any ideas from.
Working out with a personal trainer, the teen hunk proved just how dedicated he is to staying in shape by admitting that he survives on just four hours' sleep a night.
Maximising his potential time in the gym, Harry revealed he likes to work out immediately before hitting the hay, and rises at 5am to squeeze in a spot of gruelling Bikram yoga before heading out on the road with his bandmates.
Speaking about his workout habits while running on a treadmill, he explained: 'It's currently 12.15am. I train for an hour, then go to sleep for four hours.
'Get up again at 5am, have breakfast and go to Bikram yoga and have an espresso afterwards. Easy peasy!'
And the young music megastar is by no means takes things easy during his stints in the gym, with the unique behind-the-scenes video showing him working up a sweat as he lifted a huge weight.
Visibly grimacing as he flexed his biceps, the teen icon showcased the vast collection of body art he has acquired on his chest and torso.
Panting heavily as he struggled with one barbell, he joked: 'I'm training to be Thor.'
But Harry proved he didn't take himself too seriously throughout his gruelling session, and poked fun at himself as he danced away on the treadmill, flailing his arms in the air as he pounded an imaginary pavement.

Explaining the motivation behind the group's gym visits, Liam said: 'Being out there jumping around like a lunatic each night, and we're 126 shows in now, it's quite crazy.
'So staying fit is a huge deal. We've got the stadium tour next year and there's a 100-metre catwalk that we're going to have to run down so we have to keep in shape otherwise we just won't be on it.'

But luckily, the 33-year-old reality star had her friends and fiancé Kanye West to keep her company for the big feast.
And as several members of the family tweeted snapshots of their feast, Kim gave a shout out to her best friends over Instagram.
'Being
away from home for the holidays is hard but I'm so thankful for family
& friends like this!' she wrote alongside a group shot of her
Thanksgiving friends. 'I love you guys.
Kim was unsurprisingly at the centre of the photograph sporting a grey vest top and trousers and black leather jacket, while her rapper fiancé coordinated with her perfectly in a casual grey hoodie and his favourite leather trousers.
They were joined by Kim's friends Jonathan Cheban, Larsa and Scottie Pippen and Amber and Loren Riddinger among others.
Kim was in Miami to support fiancé Kanye, 36, who is performing a gig on Friday as part of his Yeezus tour.
She seemed to be pleased at her Florida surroundings the following day though, posting an Instagram picture of a stunning beach shot from what appeared to be her hotel room.
Kim and Kanye were spotted chatting to friend on Thursday outside their abode in the blinding Florida sunshine, dressed in matching grey tops, with their Rolls-Royce parked in front.
The first-time mother showed off her enviably flat stomach in a tight singlet, while her famous curves were accentuated in her skin-tight matching grey jeans, which she teamed with black strappy stilettos.
Kim's bestie Cheban, joined the new parents, along with daughter North, for a sumptuous Thanksgiving feast later that afternoon.
The publicist couldn't resist sharing a photo of his pal's efforts in the kitchen, posting an image to his social media accounts that featured a plate full of mac and cheese, stuffing, crackling, a turkey leg and sweet potato mash.
'Who knew @KimKardashian could really throw down in the kitchen! Happy Thanksgiving #MiamiTG,' he captioned the pic.
Meanwhile, the reality TV star shared a special holidays-themed blog post with her fans on Thanksgiving morning, paying tribute to her fiancé and daughter as well as reminiscing of holidays past with her late father, Robert Kardashian.
She wrote on her website: 'Thanksgiving was the holiday that I always spent with my dad skiing every year in Vail, Colorado since I was two years old to 22. This time of year always brings back such amazing memories. I am thankful I had them.
