FG removes fuel subsidy, says petrol to sell for N85 by Jan 1st 2016

Minister of State for Petroleum , Dr Ibe Kachikwu during a tour of the Port Harcourt refinery on Christmas Day said that the Federal government is working to reduce the pump price of petrol to about 85 or 86 naira per litre by Jan 1st.

He said efforts were on to get the refinery to achieve 60 percent production capacity and to supply about 11 million liters of petrol daily.
“If you look at the new PPPRA template that we developed and which I just signed off two days ago, when it is announced you will find out that for now ,and I use the emphatic word of the President for now, the price of the refined product will actually be lower than 87 naira, It will be 85. We will probably announce that in January if the prices hold.
“Like I said, we have done a modulation calculation and it is showing us below N87. I imagine that if PPPRA publishes it today, it will become effective immediately. But the 1st of January that is when we are looking at.”
“What that does for you is that its modulating. If it goes up you move up, if it comes down you come down. So we take away the fact of having to go find funds to pay for these subsidies that we cannot afford.
“More importantly we try to be as close to the pump price that we have now as possible,” he said.

New wage formula for legislators to be released next month- RMAFC boss says

The chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission commission, Elias Mbam says a new wage formula for members of the National assembly will be released next month by the commission. RMAFC is the government agency saddled with the responsibility of determining the remunerations of political office holders in Nigeria.

The commissions Chairman announced the new wage plan after a meeting with President Buhari. The President had expressed his displeasure over the approval of outrageous remunerations for political office holders by the commission.

The commissions boss while speaking said “We are currently reviewing the subsisting remuneration packages and it is going to reflect the socio-economic realities of today. We expect that before the end of next month, it will be ready. But it will go through a process, it is not something that you will just say yes or no. No member of the National Assembly should earn up to N1million per month” and that the Senators and Members of the House of Representatives have no option but to abide by the commission’s new wage formula. They do not have a choice. We are guided by the constitution and we are going to be guided by such laws that are provided for in the constitution and the oath they swore to obey,” he said.

FG to recruit 10,000 policemen

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday unveiled Federal Government’s plans to recruit 10,000 policemen 2 years after the last recruitment by the Nigeria Police Force.
President Buhari, who spoke at the National Security Summit on Community Partnership Approach to Internal Security and Crime Management, organised by the police in Abuja, said the government will also establish a well-trained and equipped anti-terrorism and multi-agency based task force to address the challenges of insurgency in a sustainable manner.

President Buhari also said that efforts were being made to enhance the operational capacity of officers of the Nigeria Police Force through a training programme targeted at giving them the right civil orientation in performing their roles as guardians of the Constitution.

At the summit, the President stated that the government was already considering the expansion of the Closed Circuit Television across major cities and towns in the country.

He said:
“It is in acknowledgement of this that I have identified youth empowerment as one of the cardinal objectives of our administration; in furtherance to this, the Federal Government is planning to employ at least an extra 10, 000 police officers and establish a properly trained and equipped federal anti-terrorism multi-agency task force that will effectively address the challenge of future insurgency in a sustainable manner.
“In the meantime, efforts are being made to enhance the operational capacity of officers of the Nigeria Police through a tailor made training programme that will give them the right civil orientation in their roles as guardians of the constitution. “In order to further strengthen security of the public space, consideration is being given to the expansion of the CCTV monitoring system across major cities and towns in the country, while the police accountability mechanism will be strengthened.”

In appreciation of the strategic roles of the citizens and the community in modern policing, the President stated that his administration will encourage states to look at state-level community police interaction.

He commended the police leadership for dismantling roadblocks and deploying policemen in the highway to protect Nigerians. The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, called for funding of the Nigeria Police to ensure operational efficiency, stressing that it was only through adequate funding that the huge logistic demand of the police could be met. Arase noted that modern policing was a cost-intensive venture, which he said the benefits far outweighed the value of budgetary investment.
“Through effective funding, the welfare needs of police personnel will be met and the challenge of corruption that has eroded professionalism and public respect for police will be addressed,” he said.

He called for the resuscitation and passage of the Bill on Police Trust Fund pending before the National Assembly to enhance public-police partnership. The bill seeks to tax corporate entities to complement the Federal Government in funding the police.

Arase maintained that if the bill was passed into law, the funding challenges of the police would be addressed on a sustainable basis. He said that the security challenges in the country and inadequate manpower would be best addressed through citizens-driven policing model.

President Buhari initiates move for domestic weapons production

President Buhari has initiated moves for the production of weapons in Nigeria. According to a statement signed and released by Senior Special Adviser to the president on media and publicity Garba Shehu today August 7th, President Buhari charged the Federal Ministry of Defence to produce a plan for the establishment of a modest Military Industrial Complex for the local production of weapons to meet some of the requirements of the country's armed forces. The statement after the cut..

President Muhammadu Buhari Friday in Abuja directed the Federal Ministry of Defence to produce a plan for the establishment of a modest Military Industrial Complex for the local production of weapons to meet some of the requirements of the country's armed forces. Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the National Defence College, President Buhari described as unacceptable, Nigeria's current over-dependence on other countries for critical military equipment and logistics. "We must evolve viable mechanisms for near-self-sufficiency in military equipment and logistics production complemented only by very advanced foreign technologies. "The Ministry of Defence is being tasked to draw up clear and measurable outlines for development of a modest Military Industrial Complex for Nigeria. "In this regard, it is to liaise with other strategic MDAs and industries to re-engineer the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) to meet national military hardware and logistics requirements," the President said. President Buhari told the gathering that his administration had, since its assumption of office, reviewed the nature and character of Nigeria's security threats and challenges. "We recognized first and foremost, the external dimensions of these threats and the need for international cooperation and common security mechanisms to tackle them," the President said.
President Buhari added that in the light of this realization, his Administration was "convinced that the best approach was to work within the framework of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) to mobilize a collective regional effort in the fight against terrorism and insurgency.
The President urged the graduates and officers and men of the Armed Forces to work harder to win the war against Boko Haram, terrorism and insurgency.
"We must apply a comprehensive strategy and coordinate all elements of national power against terrorism and insurgency; we must show result oriented leadership at all levels of military Command; we must set up an optimal organization to manage and sustain operational performance; and we must show confidence and winning mentality," President Buhari told them.
The President assured that the Federal Government under his leadership will strive to meet the operational, logistic, training and welfare requirements of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to ameliorating the hardships of people living in areas most affected by insurgency and terrorism.
"We have the will, resolve and conviction to apply a comprehensive strategy and coordinate all elements of national power against terrorism and insurgency," the President reassured Nigerians and the international community.
President Buhari said that the National Defence College had fulfilled the vision of its founding fathers, by becoming a strategic human capacity-building institution, making credible contributions to Nigeria and other friendly countries.
The President urged graduates of the College's Course 23 to resolve to make "a marked difference in your future deployments and contribute your quota to the evolution and implementation of national security, defence and military strategies."
"You should be the source that lights up the environment wherever you find yourselves," he told them.

Infinix Mobility today officially launched an online contest tagged #TheHottestOne aimed at identifying and rewarding talented young Nigerians. This follows the success of previous similar online contests organized by the company, notably #TheNextHero  and #Zero2Hero campaigns, both of which actively engaged the Nigerian youth demographic to suggest desired phone features and share their inspiring stories respectively.

During #TheHottestOne campaign, Nigerians can show their talent as Infinix embarks on the search for The Hottest One. Nigerians who have one talent or the other can participate in the contest by uploading short videos or pictures of themselves displaying their talent using the official hashtag #TheHottestOne on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Marotta Camille, Infinix Mobility PR and Online Manager said:
“At Infinix, we are always excited to interact with our fans and end users via social media and/or on-the-ground activation. We believe that being close to our users is what brings the real value and makes Infinix unique in this market.”
The campaign runs from 29 July to 17 August 2015 and will be in five categories as the challenge will crown the Hottest Singer, Hottest Face, Hottest Dancer, Hottest Dresser, and Hottest Rapper. To win, a contestant is required to have the highest number of likes on Facebook and Instagram; this is in addition to the entry having the highest number of retweets on Twitter.
In addition to the potential of winning the contest, participants can be among the 500 people that would be selected to attend the special awards presentation event holding in Lagos on 18 August at the Landmark Center where they could also win surprise prizes, freebies, and a chance to win the latest device from Infinix Mobility. They can also connect with the leading tech companies, stakeholders, celebrities including musicians and entertainers, among others.
Bruno Li, Infinix Mobility Country Manager said:
“We didn’t just stumble on the idea of using social media to reach our major targets who are the youths and young professionals. These special breed of people play mostly in the social media space so we set out to deliberately reach them via the social media platforms.”

Mark Zuckerberg and wife expecting baby girl. Opens up about past miscarriages

Billionaire CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan are going to be parents. Mark shared the photo on the left announcing the happy news and also shared details about previous miscarriages 'to give more people the same hope they felt and help more people feel comfortable sharing their stories as well'. The couple were married in 2012. The soon-to-be father proudly shared this emotional post with his 33.2 million followers on Facebook.
"Priscilla and I have some exciting news: we're expecting a baby girl! We've been trying to have a child for a couple of years and have had three miscarriages along the way.
"You feel so hopeful when you learn you're going to have a child. You start imagining who they'll become and dreaming of hopes for their future. You start making plans, and then they're gone. It's a lonely experience.
Most people don't discuss miscarriages because you worry your problems will distance you or reflect upon you—as if you're defective or did something to cause this. So you struggle on your own."
"Our good news is that our pregnancy is now far enough along that the risk of loss is very low and we are very hopeful," he said.
"Cilla and our child are both healthy, I'm extremely excited to meet her and our dog Beast has no idea what's coming."
"So I'm already convinced she takes after me,"
"We're looking forward to welcoming her into the world and sharing more soon when she's ready to come out and meet everyone!"

Congratulations to the couple!!!
