One Direction are having a tough time following the shock departure of beloved band member Zayn Malik last week.
But
it could have been far worse for the chart-topping boy band since it's
been alleged Louis Tomlinson had the opportunity to leave the group and
carve out an acting career after being offered a role in a major movie.
Thankfully,
the 23-year-old singer chose to forsake his Hollywood dream in favour
of taking part in 1D's On the Road Again Tour, which Zayn sensationally
quit in order to resume life as a 'normal 22 year old'.
Next stop, Hollywood: Louis Tomlinson
was reportedly offered a role as a goalkeeper in a major movie and had
several meetings with producers in Los Angeles
Football fan Louis was reportedly offered the part of a goalie in the film, based on the story of Reading Football Club.
His character is said to have been a renowned troublemaker off the pitch in the 1960s, gambling and flirting with women.
'There were several meetings and it was something that Louis really, really wanted to do', a source told The Daily Mirror.
Back with the boys: However, the dates
clashed with One Direction's On The Road Again tour, so Louis decided
to stay with his bandmates Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Harry
Styles (from left to right)
'He
loves football, so the chance to play a footballer was a huge temptation
in itself, but he also loved the script and very much saw it as the
beginning of an acting career, which is something that he is considering
when 1D do finally go their separate ways.
'But
it was just a case of bad timing as the filming was scheduled for
exactly the same time as One Direction's American tour dates so he
declined the offer and chose to stay with the band.'
However,
Louis - who recently split from long-term girlfriend Eleanor Calder -
couldn't bear to let his bandmates down and is said to have turned down
the opportunity because he has 'absolutely no intention' of leaving any
time soon.
Zayn pain: The rumour comes in the
wake of Zayn Malik's decision to quit the chart-topping boy band after
five years, which has left millions of fans around the world
heartbroken
MailOnline has contacted the X Factor stars representatives for comment.
Louis,
Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Niall Horan have rallied together in the
wake of Zayn's departure, performing their first gig as a foursome in
South Africa on Sunday evening.
The
Best Song Ever hit-makers have been keen to reassure their millions of
devoted fans that they're staying together and insist they remain the
best of friends with Zayn.
In
an official statement issued last week, One Direction said: 'We're
really sad to see Zayn go, but we totally respect his decision and send
him all our love for the future.
'The past five years have been beyond amazing, we've gone through so much together, so we will always be friends.'
Moving on: The boys are continuing as a four-piece and have no intention of quitting
