It's a girl! Singer Sophie B. Hawkins has given birth to a baby daughter, at the age of 50
She told the publication: 'Dashiell and I are ecstatic to finally be with our beautiful girl. Our family is now complete!'
Sophie
had her first child in 2008, and spoke to a fertility doctor about the
possibility of having another baby later in life with an embryo she had
had frozen when she was 31.
In an interview with Today
in June, she revealed her reasons for going through with the pregnancy
later in life: 'My son has an old mother why can't I give him somebody
young to be his family for the rest of his life, who is around.'

Her
doctor told her she was relatively healthy and Sophie said: 'She says I
am the healthiest pregnant woman. I could have been 30 and had a lot
more problems.'
Sophie
says she used a sperm donor in order to have both her children, and she
agonised over the decision for a year and a half of whether to give her
son a sibling.
She told unconnfertility.com: 'I agonized over the decision for a year and a half, not because of my age, but because I am so happy, focused and productive.
'I
went back and forth like a lawyer trying a case, sometimes as the
prosecution, sometimes as the defense of the unborn child and sibling,
and through it all one question emerged. “Which will I regret, having
another child or not having another child?”'
The
singer, who is best known for her hits 'Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover'
and 'As I Lay Me Down' in the 90's went ahead with the pregnancy and
nicknamed the 'bump' Bubble Gum after her son came up with the moniker.
In
the lead up to the birth she said: 'Dashiell has his own relationship
with this child it is me that is a little blocked. And that is just fear
and it will end the moment she comes out.'

baby daughter, who she has called Esther Ballantine
Sophie told People in an interview a few weeks before she had her daughter she wasn't concerned about having another child so late in life.
But she did worry about how it might impact on her relationship with her son.
'Losing
the closeness with Dash, our free and adventurous lifestyle, and the
risk that he would feel betrayed by my having another child.
'We've come through serious trauma with depth, healing and humor and that has made our bond even stronger.'
The
singer says she is currently single but would like to would love to
meet a partner: 'I decided to do this as a single woman and it was a
great decision. I don;t want to date but I do have dreams about a great
love.'
